Newsletter June 2010 - Daily Organizing

School is out, and the July 4th holiday is almost here.  Are you ready for the relaxing summer days ahead, or are you distracted by cluttered surfaces and endless to do lists?  What if I told you that by doing two organizing activities a day, you'll be able to stay organized all summer long and enjoy the season?

Two A Day

As I mentioned above, the two organizing activities that I recommend doing in order to stay organized all summer long and longer are:
My headshot1.  Process incoming paper, for example, mail, notices from summer camp, work papers, and newspapers every day.
2.  Perform a 10 minute clean up of horizontal surfaces like kitchen counters, tables, desks, and floors every day.
By doing these two activities daily your goal is to create systems for managing the daily build up of papers and items, and to form habits from these activities.  As a result you will become organized, because being organized means that you have created systems that work for you, and you have habitual behavior that supports those systems.  I encourage you to do these two daily activities all summer long and share your insights and feedback with me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 3. File papers - put paid bills, medical papers, receipts and bank papers in assigned files in order to prevent paper pile up
  4. School bags, work bags and pocketbooks - remove everything to make sure nothing is fogotten or missed, discard what you can to keep it functional
  5. Calendar - check appointments, clarify dates and prepare for the next week

Testimonials

"I am a food hoarder. I have a huge pantry and a very large lazy susan crammed full of food. My husband complains, when I can’t find what I’m looking for I just go out and buy more. So, I end up with twenty of one thing. With a new baby in the house, I realized that I need to reduce my food supply. But how? Janine helped me go through my food, organize it into categories, write a shopping list, and write a list of meals that I could make with the food I had. She came over, and in a few hours I knew what food I had in the house, and I didn’t have to plan a menu for two weeks. It was great! Plus, she worked around a new mom’s schedule. It was a wonderful experience. I am already thinking of other projects I have been putting off that Janine can help me with. I think my photos will be next. Thank you Janine for helping me organize my pantry. I would not have done it without you."   - Sarah R. - Chelmsford, MA
